Anna Filipiak

At 4:45 pm on September 11, 2024, Anna (Waskan) Filipiak passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her children, just two months shy of her 99th birthday. Anna was born at home in Detroit, Michigan on November 23, 1925 to William and Anna (Taski) Waskan, the second of four children. Brought up in the Depression, her childhood was a difficult one but it helped make her the strongest, most resilient woman her children could ever imagine, as they frequently told her! Later in life she suffered from severe back pain, severely limiting her mobility, but she accepted it without complaint, never feeling sorry for herself, and always endured it without a trace of self-pity. In 1951 she married the literal boy-across-the-street, Edward Filipiak, and together they bought the tiny house on Hasse St next door to Ann’s parents and down the street from Eddie’s. She worked at Burroughs in Detroit until becoming a full-time mom to her three children, Donna Filipiak, Nancy (Dennis) Krzeminski, and David (Charleen) Filipiak and spent the rest of her life loving and caring for her family. The children she dedicated her life to love her beyond measure and will be putting back the broken pieces of their hearts forever. Ann was predeceased by her sister, Mary Moros and brother, Bill. She is survived by her three children, her sister, Katie Ozanich, sister-in-law Joan Waskan, and nieces, nephews and friends, all who were lucky to have her in their lives. As a world-class, life-long worrier, she is finally at peace. Something tells us if there is a way for her to worry in the afterlife, she will find a way! Hearts are shattered but the pain is eased knowing she is reunited with her beloved Eddie, husband of 71 years, who has been patiently waiting for two years to be with her again. He can now introduce her to her new eternal life and they will be together to celebrate endless anniversaries together. Visitation Monday 3-9pm at Wujek-Calcaterra and Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd). Funeral Tuesday instate 9am at St. Rene Goupil Catholic Church at 35955 Ryan Rd (between 15 and 16 Mile Rds) until time of Mass at 9:30am. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
