Alice M. Serra Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alice Marie Serra, a Godly woman, devoted daughter, loving wife, nurturing mother, trusted friend. Alice was born on September 6, 1931, to Carlos and Mary Pace in Detroit, Michigan. In 1949 at the age of 18, Alice met Philip Serra at a basketball game. That chance encounter would result in their marriage in 1952. She attended Nativity Catholic High School where she and others discovered she was musically inclined. Her gift for music was later demonstrated through both her singing and talent for playing piano, skills she pursued until her recent illnesses. Alice worked as a Bank Teller until 1954 when she had her first child and decided to dedicate her life to being a mother to Patricia, Thomas and MaryJo. Alice’s labor of love for her family was represented in her tireless work in the family business, her time spent volunteering at her children’s Catholic school to help pay for their education and her compassionate commitment to her parents. Alice supported her family through many difficulties but it was her strong faith in God that always got her through without complaint but gratitude. It was this faith that was her greatest gift to her children. Alice is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Philip. She is survived by her children Patricia (Roland) King, Thomas (MaryJo) Serra, MaryJo Godard, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a brother. Alice was passionate about her church, family, and music. We will miss her greatly but will hold close her greatest gift to us, our Faith. In remembrance of Alice’s life, her children ask that any charitable donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org/donate) and/or St. Michael Catholic Church (Send Donation To: 40501 Hayes Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313). Visitation is Friday 3-8pm at Wujek-Calcaterra, 36900 Schoenherr Road, Sterling Heights, MI. Instate 9am until the time of the 9:30am Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes, Sterling Heights followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
