Geldhof, Albert August, age 79. Passed away on November 22, 2019 in the home of his loving daughter Laura Geldhof in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Son of the late Cyril M. and Sidonie R. Geldhof. Preceded in death by his devoted wife of 52 years, Evelyn A. (nee Stec). Beloved father of Pamela L. Shinavier (Dean, deceased), Sandra M., Laura R. (Eric Olson), and Dianna F. Silly Grandpa to Ryan, Shelby, Tyler, Aidan, Erin, Ellie and Cayden. Brother of the late August Cerku, Marie L. Santwire, Julius R. Geldhof, Joseph C. Geldhof and Elizabeth Rolder. Godfather to Matthew Rolder, Mark Geldhof, and Gus Cerku Jr. Cherished "Uncle Al" to countless nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces. Born October 10, 1940 on the east side of Detroit, Michigan. Attended local parochial schools through his childhood and graduated in 1958 from St. Catherine's High School. Attended Wayne State University from 1958-1963, graduating cum laude with a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. Began his lifelong career with the Internal Revenue Service in 1963 as a revenue officer, working his way through the ranks in various management positions and retired in October of 1996 after 31 years of dedicated employment. Joined the Michigan National Guard in 1963 and loyally served when called upon until October 1969. He was very active in the American Legion Roose-Vanker Post 286 and served as Adjutant, for years writing the membership newsletter, which won a Legion award for small posts. Throughout his life he enjoyed camping, reading, writing stories, watching old movies and comedies, raising his daughters, gardening, his loving marriage of 52 years to his devoted wife Lynn, doing friends and family's taxes, and was an avid if not always successful deer hunter with the Antler's Hunting Club, developing life-long friendships with the members of the Club, while growing the membership by initiating his nephews and great-nephews. He loved baking his famous raisin bread, which won third place in the Michigan State Fair. Funeral services will be held at Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home in Sterling Heights, Michigan on Monday December 2. Visitation with the family will be from 3-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday, December 3, he will lie in state at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Sterling Heights at 9:30 a.m. with a mass at 10 a.m. Al will be interred alongside his wife at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. Funeral luncheon is planned for 12:30 p.m. for friends and family at the Polish Century Club of Detroit in Troy, Michigan.
