Mickie (Mildred) Ann Kukula

An angel from heaven, Mickie (Mildred) Ann Kukula (nee Kennedy), passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025 in the comfort of her home in Washington, MI at the age of 94. She was born in 1930 in Hamtramck, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Paul Kukula (2012), her mother Mariam Rzeppa, her step father Edmund Paul Rzeppa, her sister Jane Elizabeth Frishman, and her beloved dog, Snowflake. She is survived by her daughters Denise and Cathy. She was a kind and loving mother, aunt, sister and dear friend. Mom was very creative. She designed their home in Harrison Twp., had a talent for decorating, and in her constant quest for change and novelty, she rearranged the decor in our condo almost daily. She mastered the art of french cooking while living in France with my Dad for 2 1/2 years, and cooking became one of her many great passions. Her home cooked creations were out of this world, and she was always looking to try something different. She was also an artist. Using both watercolors and acrylics, she hand painted her own ornaments and her own Christmas cards every year for the past 10 years. Mom loved having a good time, and always wanted to make sure everyone else joined in! She'd say, "Life is too short... you have to enjoy it!" She loved adventure, traveling, entertaining, and looked for ANY excuse to throw a party! In fact, if you have a chance to visit my mom and dad's gravesite, you will see her personally designed etching of her and dad toasting to their good friends, good times, and good life together. She loved all kinds of music, especially country western, and always had music playing in our house. She told me several times that she didn't want anyone remembering her in a casket. Instead, she wanted her life celebrated at a country western bar, and wanted the song "Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox If I Die" played! She was something! My mom leaves a lasting legacy for all who knew and loved her. She will always be remembered for her easy going nature, her hilarious sharp wit, great sense of humor, and most of all, her unwavering carefree, positive outlook on life. Her glass was ALWAYS half full. She had a precious and endearing innocence about her, and yet she often showed her childlike mischievous side, which made it impossible to not adore her. In my heart, my mother was perfect. There are no words to describe what a good mother she was, and whose love was completely unconditional. What a special gift she was to all those who were lucky to have known her. She gave of herself unselfishly, never asking or expecting anything in return....a true child of God, and a shining example of what really matters in this life. Mickie Kukula's final resting place will be at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Rochester, MI. A memorial mass and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
