James Anthony Shanahan

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of an incredibly loved man. James Anthony Shanahan entered eternal rest on Wednesday February 19th, 2025 Jim affectionately known as Jimbo and Papa, leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and dedication. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Beloved husband to Evanne (nee Shulock) for 67 cherished years. Loving father of Gregory (Nancy) Shanahan, Erin (Carmen) DeAngelis, Lisa Shanahan-Kleino (Thomas Kleino), Bradley (Kimberly) Shanahan, and Denzel (Melanie) McCoy. Proud grandfather of Brendan (Brittany) Shanahan, Caitlin (Curtis) Rose, Cameron Kleino, Kelsey DeAngelis, Vanessa Kleino, Kailey Shanahan, Kiera Shanahan, Ronin McCoy, and great grandfather of Emery, Brie, Eisley, and Ayla. Born December 28, 1938, the 3rd child of James and Margaret Shanahan, he attended and played football and basketball at St. Mary’s in Mt. Clemens and attended Western Michigan University. Jim was a hard worker his entire life, spending most of his career in facilities management. A skilled carpenter like his father, he built a large extension to the family home where family gathered for 65 years enjoying magical holidays and fun filled family parties. His children and grandchildren were blessed to grow up playing outside in a meticulously manicured and maintained back yard with swing sets, sandboxes, tether ball and badminton. Summers were spent swimming, climbing fruit trees barbecuing, playing catch, wiffle ball or basketball, planting and maintaining endless flower beds. Winters were spent skating and playing hockey on the rink he would build. A die hard sports fan, Jim loved all sports, especially his beloved Detroit teams. A simple, humble man, Jim was comfortable in the background, content to quietly help behind the scenes. His devotion to his family was most evident in how he cared for his wife after her stroke five years ago, showing remarkable unselfishness and dedication. This man of quiet strength, deep integrity and unconditional love will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to The American Tinnitus Association. Visitation Wednesday February 26th from 3-8pm with a 7pm Rosary service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd).
