Donald F. Comfort

Donald F. Comfort, 77, of Sterling Height passed peacefully in his home on Monday, October 23rd, after a long journey with Parkinson’s disease. Beloved husband to Judith (nee Lanehart) for 49 years and proud father of Donald, Andrea, & Nicole Carden (Jim). Grandfather to Holly, Megan, and Caitlin; uncle; and great-uncle. Dearest brother of the late Edward (Annette) Comfort. Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Gertrude Comfort. Donald was born in Detroit, MI and graduated from Osborn high school in Detroit. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University. Donald worked as a mechanical engineer for Michigan Seamless Tubing in South Lyon, MI for 30 years and enjoyed his work as an engineer. Donald married Judith in 1974 and they lived in Sterling Heights for their 49 years together. They enjoyed being active in their children’s sports and school activities. Later in life they enjoyed traveling to places such as Alaska, The Caribbean, The Grand Canyon, Maine, Canada, The SD Badlands, Hawaii, and Ireland. Donald was known for his creativity. He designed and decorated many birthday cakes for his children and nieces when they were growing up. He also created many wood-working gifts for his family such as a step stools, spice racks and wind chimes. Donald’s creativity and engineering combined perfectly during his children’s elementary school’s Halloween Spooktacular events in the 1980’s where he designed many scary and automated features for the haunted houses. The most famous was a dinosaur that had red, glowing eyes and automated jaws that breathed smoke; it is still talked about by family and friends today. Donald also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was known for his lasagna, soups, pies, and stir-fry. Visitation Thursday, October 26th from 3 to 8 PM at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate Friday, October 27th at 10 AM until the time of the 11 AM Funeral Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 Van Dyke Ave, Utica, MI 48317. Interment at Christian Memorial Gardens West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan or The Parkinson's Foundation.
