David Edward Prue

David “Dave” Edward Prue, 86, of Bonita Springs, Florida passed away on Saturday September 9, 2023. Dave was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He was the oldest of three children born to Donald and Lila “Jean” Prue on March 30, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan. Dave attended Mt Clemens High School and joined the Air force at just 17 years old. He served four years in Japan working on jet aircraft instrumentation. While there, he traveled the country playing football with the Air Force team. He was also introduced to karate, which became a big part of his life. After the military, he returned to Detroit and married Dorothy May Baronowski on December 20,1958. Dave retired from General Motors where he primarily worked as the UAW rep. He shared his passion for karate by opening a karate school in Warren, MI where all four of his kids competed in tournaments. In his travels he met and befriended icons Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee. David and Dorothy lived a very active life. They had a cottage in St. Helen where they engaged in snowmobiling, motorcycling and boating. They also belonged to the North Channel and Idle Hour Yacht Clubs and Burning Tree Golf Club where they met many lifelong friends. In 1990, after retiring from GM, Dave started Prototech Laser, Inc, a laser cutting company that is still operating in Clinton Township today. Dorothy, his beloved wife of 46 years died in October 2005. Two years later, Dave married the second love of his life, Cathy McGregor. They retired and split their time between Bay Harbor, Harrison Township and Bonita Springs, FL. They enjoyed many fabulous trips and made great friends at Palmira Golf Club in Bonita Springs, FL. Dave is preceded by his parents, wife Dorothy, and sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Earl McGregor. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Prue, children Debbie Prue, Sue Prue, Donald Prue (Karen), and Steve Prue (Kelly) along with Cathy’s children, Marcus McGregor (Ken Bloink) and Adam McGregor (Jenna), sister Lynn, 11 grandkids, one great grandson, many beloved nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Visitation Friday, September 15th from 1pm until time of 4pm celebration of life at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile), Sterling Heights.
