Richard William Prentiss

Richard “Dick” Prentiss, 80, Warren resident for fifty plus years passed away on April 19, 2020. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Joanne Prentiss. Dick is survived by his five children, Richard (Kelly) Prentiss, Mark (Debbie) Prentiss, Donna Prentiss-Bonner, Paula (Mark) Baker and Linda Prentiss; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Prentiss, Kenneth (Ronnie) Crocker, Ryan Prentiss, Jessica Prentiss, and Jolene Bonner and step grandchildren Justin (Katie) Kalousdian and William (Emily) Kalousdian; and predeceased step grandchild Kyle Kalousdian. Dick is also survived by his four-legged furry companion, Luna. Dick was born one of six children to Hugh and Ila Prentiss. He is survived by his brothers, Harold (Laurel) Prentiss and Hugh (Phyllis) Prentiss, and preceded in death by his siblings, Juanita (Jack) Stanger, Patricia (Edward) Older and Norman (Carol) Prentiss. He grew up in Hazel Park, Michigan and Marysville, Michigan. Dick was a very hard-worker and great provider for his family. He was employed as a Diesetter at General Motors Hydramatic for 43 years prior to retiring. When Dick and Joanne’s children were growing up, much time was spent camping with neighbors and friends. That love of the outdoors allowed him to expose all of his children to hunting and fishing. It was hunting at the Atlanta property and fishing in Marysville that taught them many a life lesson. Later they spent much time boating and with marina friends. Dick and Joanne were thrilled to spend several months of the year at their “Sunshine Haven” or “little house” in Ft. Myers Beach, Florida for many years. They enjoyed the sun, beaches, parties, time spent time with many Michigan friends and making new friends. Dick was a quiet man in many ways – reserved one might say. However, he would regale you with many a story of his time spent at work, antics of Luna, and other current events. He did have the gift of gab. While he had a gruff exterior, Dick was a very loving, caring, and thoughtful man. Dick was highly mechanically inclined, he could fix many things and some of his methods were a little unconventional, but always came out great!! No matter what he put his mind to, he accomplished. Dick was such a STRONG man in many ways. He loved to tease people as a way of showing his affection, and had nicknames for many people in his life. He LOVED to garden and to cook and took pride in how well his garden was and how much everyone liked his cooking!! Dick will be sorely missed. RIP Daddy-O - We LOVE YOU!
