Nelly Fortunée Sikorski

Sikorski, Nelly F. (nee Brami) April 13, 2019. Age 84. Beloved wife of Stanley, Jr. Dearest mother of Michael (Susan) Sikorski and Steven (Diane) Sikorski. Loving grandmother of Debra (Jon), Scott (Amber), Mark and Jacqueline (Josh). Proud great grandmother of Valerie, Ella and Charlotte. Dear sister of the late Claude (Simone) Brami and the late Colette (the late Jacques) Bougerol. Visitation Tuesday 2-9 pm. Funeral Wednesday 11:00 am at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Private interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI, Thursday. Nelly was born as a French citizen in 1934 in Casablanca, Morocco to Jewish parents who were born in French controlled Tunisia. She was the middle child with an older brother Claude and a younger sister Colette. Nelly was raised in a happy urban home with a focus on the arts, fun and education. Nelly had a dedication to serve which led her to attend nursing school. The post-World War II condition brought American military bases to Morocco and Nelly had the chance to meet a handsome American Air Force man named Stanley of Polish descent at the USO club. They quickly fell in love, married and had their first child, Michael, before the family moved to the US. Nelly converted to Catholicism soon after marrying Stanley and became a military man's spouse. They had their second child, Steven, while stationed in Michigan in 1961. That life had the family travel to Ohio, Panama, Virginia and Germany. An amazing coincidence is that Nelly's sister Colette married a French Army officer who was also stationed with their family in Germany for part of the time; thus the two sisters born in Casablanca got to spend their holidays together with their families. In 1976, after Michael finished high school in Virginia, Stanley retired from the Air Force and the family ended their nomadic life by settling in the Detroit area where Stanley was raised. In 1981, Nelly returned to nursing after many years which required her to study and take her boards again. Nelly succeeded and worked for fifteen years for the Detroit Medical Center's University Health Center. Nelly's last job at the hospital before retiring was as the liaison nurse between her surgical ward and Children's Hospital. Nelly was an affectionate and attentive grandmother and great grand mother. Nelly liked the name GiGi (for great-grandmother). Nelly and Stanley were married for 62 and half years; their dedication is a example for all. Driven by her personal beliefs and her faith, Nelly volunteered throughout her life. She served as a chaperon for children's school activities, selling ice cream every week to raise funds, as a Eucharistic Minister in her church, helping at the high school health office and most recently as a tutor for Henry Ford II High School French teachers. Nelly will be greatly missed by all she touched. She loved without condition and gave without concern for herself.
