Michael Patrick O'Donnell

Michael Patrick O’Donnell passed away peacefully in his sleep and was reunited with his beautiful bride in the early hours of January 18, 2024. Michael (Mike) was born on May 1, 1934, and grew up in the farm areas outside of Lake St. Clair/Port Huron. Mike was a military guy, stationed in Barstow, California at the edge of the burning sand of the Mojave Desert. Mike was a proud Marine, and it showed through the stories he shared with his friends and family about his military days. After serving as a US Marine for several years, Mike settled in Detroit, Michigan. It was there that this Irishman, met his match in the beautiful Irene Margaret O’Donnell on St. Patrick’s Day at the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick bar. The Irish union was meant to be, and the two went on to marry at the beautiful Dun Scotus Church on July 5, 1958 in Southfield, Michigan. Mike and Irene had two daughters, Maureen Cargill (John) and Megan ODonnell (Wendy Deppe). Mike relished in his daughters accomplishments and was an extremely proud and involved dad. Mike had many jobs when he was young, however he remained working for Chrysler for over 35 years. He was proud of the work he put into his job always showing up and working to be his best. Mike traveled to amazing places far and wide; cruising and soaking up the sun with his wife- one of their favorites being Ireland. Mike and Irene lived in many houses over the course of the years- including sharing a lake house in Indiana and a beach house in Florida. Mike loved both Indiana and Florida. He always spoke of the view of their lake from the porch in Indiana, as well as the smell of their fruit trees in front of the their house in Florida. Mike lived a fun loving, adventurous, hard working, honest life with his wife Irene for many years. He loved telling stories of the past while savoring memories of the moments he was living including time spent with his beloved grandchildren Dane and Griffin. Mike loved these two boys and was so proud of both of them. Mike loved green and anything Irish. He was positive to a fault, and never complained a day in his life. He was grateful and giving, hard working and responsible. He was very proud of the life he created and was at peace with how life turned out for him and those he loved. Mike is survived by his daughters Maureen (John) Cargill and Megan (Wendy Deppe) O’Donnell and his sweet grandchildren Dane Cargill and Griffin Cargill, his Sister Rose Helen Schings and many nieces and nephews. Visitation 10am Friday, January 26th, until the 12 noon Funeral Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons. 36900 Schoenherr Rd. at Metro Parkway (16 Mile).
