Margaret Mary Gorney

GORNEY, Margaret Mary. Age 86. Passed away peacefully on Saturday August 19, 2023 surrounded by her family. Loving sister of Lawrence (the late Donna). Predeceased in death by her parents Michael and Eleanore (Nowicki), sisters Eleanora (the late Harold) Henk, and Joanne, her brother Thomas and great nephews Harold III, Kenneth Henk and Corey Henk. Adored aunt of Sandra, Harold Jr., Katherine, Richard, Jeffery, Andy, Mary Anne; Diane, Allison, Lance; Michael, Louise, Robert, Theresa; and their spouses. Survived by many loving great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews as well as great, great, great nephews. Margaret had love for family, travel, reading and conversation. She was kind, compassionate, friendly, thoughtful and always put others before her. A very independent and a hard worker her career as a mail clerk with J. L. Hudson’s Co. began after graduating from St. Catherine Catholic School in Detroit, MI. Later on in her career she was transferred to Minneapolis, MN where she retired and moved back to Michigan to be with her family. Margaret had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and many stories to share. She was a great family historian and she loved her coffee! Margaret was a sweet, accepting and loving sister, aunt and godmother. Her family meant the world to her as she always looked forward to family gatherings, seeing all the kids, playing games (especially cards), imaginative play and tea parties. Margaret was always up for an adventure at amusement parks, taking walks to the movies and neighborhood parks. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Clinton Twp. and participating in activities. Although our hearts are broken and we will miss her greatly, we know that she was welcomed with open arms to her heavenly family. Visitation Sunday from 3-8pm with a 7pm Rosary and Monday 9:30am until the time of the 10:30am Funeral Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to Diabetes or the Kidney Foundation.
