Lucille Catherine Carter

Lucille Carter, longtime resident of Eastpointe, MI passed away May 22, 2025 at the age of 94, with her family by her side. Lucille was born June 30, 1930 daughter of Raymond and Florence (Kutchey) Grobbel. The oldest of 10, Lucille grew up a strong, hardworking farm girl on her family’s Centennial Farm at 11 Mile Rd. and Mound. She was working at RP Scherer when she was set up by a friend to meet the love of her life, Edwin Carter. She said that Ed told her on that first date that he was gonna marry her. Ed and Lu were married May 17, 1952. They started their life together in a flat in Hamtramck until 1955 when they bought their newly built home in East Detroit (Eastpointe) where they lived happily together raising 6 children. Ed passed in 1994. Lucille lived on Johnston until July 2021, 66 years. Lucille worked at General Safety Corporation and retired after more than 20 years of service. She loved to sew, cook, bake the best pies, cakes, and cookies, and take loving care of her family. She loved to volunteer and sing in the choir at St. Angela’s and Our Lady of Hope churches. Ed and Lu loved to travel around the country in their motorhome. After Ed passed, Lu loved spending time in Florida with her sisters each year. In her later years, she loved playing LCR, Bingo, and making crafts with her friends at Oakmont. She was an avid league golfer, the best partner at Euchre, and the Detroit Tigers #1 fan. Lu appreciated a good joke and having a good time with whatever she was doing. She was that same strong, hardworking, mentally sharp, kind friend, Mom, sister, Aunt, Grandma, GrammaLu, Gi Gi, until her very last day. She will be very much missed by many. Lucille was predeceased by her loving husband Edwin Carl Carter, her parents, her son-in-law Alvin, sister Leona, brother’s-in-law Frank, David, Donald, Sister-in-law Marlene, Ed’s siblings Margaret (Clarence), Stanley (Mae), and Roy (Lillian) Carter. Lucille is survived by her 6 children: Kathleen (Alvin), Judith, Robert (Maureen), Mary (Bob), Patricia (Terry), Jeffrey (Caryn), 16 Grandchildren: Dan (Heather), Angela, Christopher, Antonette (Jason), Andrea, Katelyn (Donny), Jessica, Reanna (Grant), Brad (Joanna), Alex (Megan), Melanie, Matthew, Brian, Aidan, Liam, Melissa;14 (soon to be 15) Great Grandchildren;1 soon to be Great Great Grandchild; Siblings: Anna Mae (Donald), Leona ( Frank), James (Shirley), Jeanette (David), Richard (Marlene), Gerald (Lynne), William (Jill), Kenneth (Sandy), Dennis (Pam); Many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 3-9pm with a 7pm Rosary at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 mile). Instate and Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Parish 28301 Little Mack Ave, St Clair Shores, MI 48081, on Thursday, May 29, 2025 with Instate at 9:30 until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10am. Interment to take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, MI (17 and Garfield).
