CHUMINATTO, Kathleen S. (nee Milke) age 72, December 12, 2019 The Chuminatto family of Shelby Township Michigan celebrates the life of Kathleen Sue Chuminatto, née Milke, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving husband and children on December 12, 2019. She was 72 years old. A public viewing is planned for Sunday from 3pm until 9pm as well as Monday, December 16th at 9:00 am, and will be followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am, at Wujek Calcaterra & Sons Funeral Home at 54880 Van Dyke Road in Shelby Township, MI. Kathy is survived by her devoted husband Thomas, children Nicole and Joel (husband) Chaiken, Nicholas and Kelly (wife) Chuminatto, and Brad and Stacy (wife) Chuminatto, grandchildren Julian, Lauren, and Jack, as well as her sister and brother-in-law Liz (née Milke) and Mike Bryer. Honored as a career educator, Kathy retired in 2010 after tenures as a teacher and later principal for Utica Community Schools. Her impact was far and wide, caring for students for nearly four decades. In her later years, it was not uncommon to hear shouts of "hey, Mrs. Chuminatto," from appreciative former students, whether during walks in Rochester, MI or while visiting her children in Chicago, IL. Born to the late Edmund and Elizabeth Milke of St. Claire Shores, MI, Kathy was one of three siblings that included her eldest brother, the late Gerald Milke, and younger sister Liz. Her call to education was evident early as she quickly demonstrated her skills as as a straight-A student. She graduated in 1969 with High Honors from Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in education, then later received a Master of Arts degree from MSU. Loving Mother and family woman, Kathy proudly raised three successful children with her husband Thom: Nicole, a radio music director and on-air personality at 101.9FM The Mix in Chicago, IL; Nicholas, a systems engineer with Dell EMC in Milwaukee, WI; and Bradley, a digital commerce executive with Cornerstone Brands in Cincinnati, OH. She revelled in motherhood and being surrounded by her grandchildren. An inseparable team that began with a shared cab ride, Thom often lovingly referenced his "47 fun-filled glorious years" of marriage with Kathy. Their favorite moments were shared on weekend road trips, dining at local restaurants, and spending time with family. Kathy enjoyed her retired days with her husband, traveling to visit family, and taking in the warm shores of Naples, Florida with her dear friends — brother- and sister-in-law, Jeff and Cynthia Harris. She will be remembered fondly in her element, with her family by her side, her infectious laugh on full display, a fruity cocktail in hand, and a sunset in the distance.
