Judith Allen Braathen

BRAATHEN, Judith Allen (nee Schoenherr). May 31, 2023. Age 78. Beloved wife of the late James. Loving mother of Wendy (John Kelley) Daniels, Becky (Tom) Braathen-Carter and Ryan (Melissa) Braathen. Loving grandmother of Taylor, Madison, Jacob, Alex, Louie, Brooklyn and Brayden. Predeceased by her siblings Sharon Wegener, Deborah Borland and James Schoenherr; and her parents James and Mary Schoenherr. Judith was known for her exuberant, bright, contagious smile that lit up a room. There isn't a person she met that didn't feel her sincerity and warmth. Judi started out in nursing school but chose to marry her love, Jim, and start her family early. Ultimately, her caregiving trait became front and center as she cared for ailing family and friends. She was truly the definition of selfless. She thoroughly enjoyed her careers both at Uniroyal Tire (old school switchboard operator and then office planner) and St. John Hospital (unit coordinator in the lab then SICU) making many friends and touching lives along the way. Her biggest accomplishment, I'm sure she'd say, is her adoring family--her biggest fans. Her love of her children, grandkids, family and "framily" (friends that are truly her family) was paramount and brought her the most happiness. From the simplest of visits, to holidays and travels, her kids were her pride and joy. Having been widowed at the age of 48 made her step out of her comfort zone. She claimed to be "shy" but you would never know it as she always engaged and made people feel they knew her forever. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and feeling loved. Alzheimer's sadly took the real Judi from us but it could not take away her smile nor the lasting memories she leaves with us. Her love and light will continue to shine forever. To know her is to love her. Visitation Friday June 9th from 2-8pm with a 7pm Rosary at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate Saturday June 10th from 10:30am until the time of the 11am Funeral Mass at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 14115 14 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 48312.
