John Peter Gusumano

Gusumano, John "Johnny G" Age 76, was born in Detroit and lost his battle to Covid on December 16, 2020 This world will never be the same. He is survived by the Love of his Life, his Soulmate, fiancé' Lori Brown; children, John (Jennifer) Gusumano, Ann Marie Gusumano, Jenna Gusumano, and Jessica Brown; grandchildren, Mia and Jackson; sisters, Rose (Albert) VanDeVelde (née Gusumano), Annie (William) Ciborowski (née Gusumano), and Mary (Santo) Cracchiolo (née Gusumano); many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Louise (nee Bommarito) Gusumano; brothers, Junior and Peter Gusumano; and sister, Margaret (Frank) Sands (nee Gusumano). John became a Fireman in Detroit when he was in his twenties. John worked for 31 years at Firehouse Engine 23 and became Captain before retiring in 2001. Also, during his time as a Fireman, he was the President of the Detroit Firemen’s Fund for many years, an association that assists families of fallen Firemen. He raised money for several charities through The Engine House and other businesses he owned and/or managed. He was also a very respected Business & Restaurant Owner for more than 50 years with his final restaurant, The Engine House in Mt Clemens. An honorable moment in his business career is when Vice President Michael Pence visited and spoke at the Engine House during the 2020 elections. John was well-recognized in the communities of Mount Clemens and Detroit. He will be remembered as a Gentleman and a Hero in many forms. John was there for others whenever someone needed a job, money or assistance. He was kind to so many people, especially his family and friends. Those who knew him well will remember his signature chuckle, his loud-snapping fingers, and his love for dancing to the oldies. Also for his love of golf, boating & fishing. He was a loving soulmate, father, brother, cousin, son and friend. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was a role model and the patriarch of the whole family. He was the father of three and stepfather to one. He was blessed with grandchildren, Mia and Jackson of whom he loved with everything he had in him. The Love of his Life for more than 20 years, Lori Brown, will cherish the many years they had together. “He is my Best Friend and the Best Father to Jessica and Papa to Jackson, and My Soulmate. The life we created together and the love we shared I will cherish until the day I am with him again.” A Celebration of John's life "Johnny G Style" will be held once covid restrictions have been lifted and a large party can be held.
