Jim Bednarski

BEDNARSKI, Jim. June 10, 2025. Age 76. Beloved husband of Sharon for 54 incredible years. Loving father of Sara Roberson and Tracy (Justin) Sova. Proud and adored grandpa of Jayden, Alex, Evelyn, and Cole. Dear brother of the late Thomas (Kathy), Connie (the late Michael) Poplawski, the late Ted, Camille (the late Jerry) Kubiak, and Tina (John) Huizdos. Treasured uncle of many nieces and nephews. Jim grew up in Detroit, attended grade school at Queen of Heaven and graduated from Notre Dame High School. As a young man he worked at his father’s gas station, Ted’s Standard in Hamtramck, played numerous sports and coached basketball, and even went on to play hockey for the University of Detroit. After his college career, he got married, joined the police academy, became a Detroit Police officer, and played on the Detroit Police hockey team, and continued in law enforcement as a probation officer until retirement. Then Jim and Sharon traveled to Arizona and Florida for the winters and to the family cottage on the beach in Oscoda, MI for the summers. His love for his family and friends was unwavering whom he would share his time with playing cards, going to watch bands play, attending sporting events, especially when his grandchildren were playing, and he always looked forward to an annual golf trip with his lifelong friends from High School. Jim truly enjoyed life and proudly celebrated his heritage as a member of the Polish Century of Club of Detroit. His family joked that we could never go anywhere without Jim running into someone he knew. If you ask his grandsons, no one knew more about sports that their Grandpa Jim. He is truly missed, but all the good memories will live on through his family, friends, and all the lives he touched. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 27th, Gathering from 9:30 a.m. until time of 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Kieran Church, 53600 Mound Rd., Shelby Twp., MI 48316 (Btw 24 & 25 Mile). In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are appreciated to American Red Cross (redcross.org/donate) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org/donate).
