Helen Catherine Stachura

STACHURA, Helen Catherine, lovingly known as Helen, Mom, Gramma, or GeeGee peacefully passed away on September 10 in Clinton Township MI at the age of 99. She was born on October 31, 1923 in the city of Detroit to the late Andrew and Catherine Mason (nee Bush). Helen was a woman of unwavering integrity, known for her strong work ethic, genuine patriotism, and selfless acts of kindness. Like many from the Greatest Generation, Helen married married during the war and worked as an original "Rosie" in the factory to support the war effort. She married Walter Stachura on July 18, 1943; they had two children: Walter and Kathleen. Helen's memory will be forever held close to the heart by her beloved daughter Kathleen Butt (the late Leon). Helen is also survived by her grandchildren Jason Stachura (Beth), Glen Butt (Jessica), Colleen/Sea (Bryan) Moore and Gwyn Butt (special friend Josh), great-grandchildren Claudia Stachura, Blake Butt, Carson Butt and Rebekah Stachura and a special "adopted" daughter, Sue Young (Barney). She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, cherished son Wally, beloved grandchild Alex and her three older brothers Frank, Hank and Eddie Mason. Throughout Helen's adventurous life she projected respect for all, to always tell the truth, never lie, always do an honest day work and work hard to climb the ladder. For over 30 years Helen was employed by Weight Watchers and doing what she did best: coaching, caring for, and encouraging women and men in their weight loss journey. In her leisure time Helen enjoyed following her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's games, competitions, and recitals. Early in her retirement she loved honing competitive skills playing 18 holes of golf weekly and on the tennis court, watching the Tigers, sewing, painting, decorating and creating meals, such as delicious fresh peach pies and the ready to be grilled, prepared grilled muenster cheese sandwiches from the freezer. As time passed, Helen went to live at the Story Point Senior Community in Chesterfield where she found many new friends and considered them as her brothers and sisters. At Story Point she focused on turning 100, Bingo, listening to music, word searches, watching the Detroit Tigers and learning the iPad by texting and proving that she could be tech savvy. She found immense joy in being present in a good conversation with her family, friends and strangers and cherished every moment that followed with laughter. Helen found solace and strength with her faith in God and was a devoted member of St. Thecla Catholic Church. Her faith was an important pillar in her life where she sought guidance and derived great comfort from her fellow worshippers. In honor of Helen's unwavering dedication to our nation's veterans and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Veterans of America (VA). These donations will honor her commitment to supporting those who have bravely served our country. The loss of Helen Stachura leaves an indescribable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will be forever cherished, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. As in her favorite song, On Eagles Wings, she will forever be in the palm of God's hand. Instate Thursday 9:30am until time of 10:30am Mass at St. Thecla Catholic Church in Clinton Township.
