Giovanna Coppola Gunn

Giovanna “Joann or Jenny” Coppola Gunn age 87 of Shelby Township, MI went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 7, 2024. She was born on October 14, 1936 at St Francis Hospital, in Hamtramck, MI, to Santo (Sam) and Marion (Maria) Coppola. Giovanna was known to her friends as Joann or Jenny and to her grandchildren as Mana Jenny (given to her by her first born grandchild Peter). Jenny was the central figure of her large, loving family. A devoted mother to her children Ray (Lisa) Gunn, Janine (Jim) Hatfield, Annmarie (Joe) Iacona and her grandchildren Peter (Megan) Gunn, Grace Gunn, Vito Iacona, Joey Iacona, and Olivia Iacona. Through her children’s marriages other granddaughters Rachael (Phil) Monolo, Allison Hatfield Edge, and grandson Duncan (Jennifer) Hatfield and was predeceased by Melissa “Emma” Eklund. She had great grandchildren including Rocco Gunn, Vienna and Antonio Monolo, Autumn (Logan) Ulm, Emily Edge, Forrest and Sadie “Claire”. And great-great grandchildren, Carson Edge, Reyna Ulm and Mayven Ulm. Her one thing in life was her family. Her second one thing was cooking. She brought it all together by always cooking for the entire family for every occasion. Beyond her family she had a special fondness for animals, she loved her dogs Misty, Mitsy, and Sonny and her children’s dogs Simba and Coco. Her home was always filled with love and the laughter of everyone enjoying her amazing Italian cooking. Jenny is also survived by her sister Anna Basilico and predeceased by her sister Katherine MacDonald. Jenny will be remembered for always being generous and inclusive to everyone she met. Along with her incredible smile, warm genuine heart, caring and loving nature, great sense of humor and a legacy of loving her children, their spouses, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren! She brought joy to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Funeral Wednesday Instate 9:30am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 44633 Utica Rd. (S. of M-59 & West of Van Dyke) until time of Mass at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
