Douglas Norman Wright Douglas Norman Wright, beloved son of the late Norman and Genevieve (Pittel) Wright, was born on November 4, 1953. He was the cherished brother of Greg (Linda) Wright, Carol (Dave) Peterson, and Julie (Jack) Nunes, and a loving uncle to Lauren (A.J.), Weston (Bree), Trenton, Renee, Ryan (Sarah), Lindsay (Stephen), Douglas (Morgan), and Zeb. He was also a devoted step-uncle to Daniel and Ben, and a proud great-uncle to Nora, Elliot, and Maeve. Doug graduated with honors from the University of Detroit, earning a Bachelor of Science in History. His passion for history—of the world, of his family, and of the everyday moments that shaped his life—was woven into everything he did. Nothing was surface-level to him, and he always sought the deeper meaning both in history and relationships. Throughout his career in the machine tool industry, Doug demonstrated dedication and integrity. He eventually partnered with his father to run a small but successful business, where he applied both skill and heart to every endeavor. Doug’s presence was a gift, leaving a lasting and immeasurable impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He loved wholeheartedly and gave without hesitation, always putting others first—as if living any other way was unimaginable. Quiet in his ways but steadfast in his devotion, Doug never sought recognition or asked for anything yet was always the first to offer help. His care for his parents was moving, honoring them with grace, compassion, and dignity through every stage of life, and particularly in their final days. Simply knowing Doug changed lives for the better—his spirit, kindness, and unwavering love inspired all who had the privilege of calling him a friend. Brilliant, curious, and remarkably humble, Doug was always ready for a thoughtful conversation. He would often surprise others with the depth and breadth of his knowledge on a diverse variety of topics. His love of reading filled his home with hundreds of books—many centered around philosophy, history, faith, prayer, and the Holy Sacraments of the Catholic Church. He found peace and joy in nature—whether hunting, walking the family farm or cabin grounds, or tending to the trees and plants he so carefully nurtured. Every tree had a story, and Doug knew them all: where it came from, whether it had been transplanted, and why it mattered. His ability to recall and share these histories wasn’t just a reflection of his love for the land—it is a testament to the thoughtfulness and intention with which he lived his life. For Doug, nothing was ever just a tree or a plant; everything had meaning and sharing that meaning with others brought him true joy. Though never one to seek the spotlight, Doug’s booming voice, humor, and warmth filled every room with his larger-than-life presence. He was known for his incredibly generous hospitality and never arrived at a celebration empty-handed. He appreciated life’s simplest pleasures and found particular joy in music—especially listening to his father and uncle play guitar. A man of deep principle, Doug embodied loyalty, humility, integrity, faithfulness, and kindness. Doug's life was rich with family and lasting friendships. His passing leaves an immeasurable void. He was a man of high honor and quiet strength, whose legacy of love, loyalty, optimism, and devotion to family and God will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Doug has found peace with God, and his family finds comfort in knowing he is home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24th, from 3–8 PM at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 36900 Schoenherr Road at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Road), Sterling Heights, Michigan. Instate on Friday, April 25th, 10am at St. Louis Catholic Church, Clinton Township. Mass at 11am, with travel to Resurrection Cemetery and short burial service immediately following. All are welcome and encouraged to join Doug’s family, as their guests for a late lunch, thereafter.
