Doreen Fay Romanski

Doreen Fay Romanski - Welcomed to eternal life on January 27, 2025. Doreen was born of the late Fay and William Symanek in Detroit, Michigan, on April 24, 1937. After her mother passed when she was 5 years old, she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Lucy and Leo Grace, and said she couldn’t have been loved more. She grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms, graduated from St. Paul on the Lake Catholic School, and went on to work at Chrysler Missile. She soon met the "love of her life" and had exclaimed, "It was love at first sight!" Doreen was proud and happy to be the beloved wife of the late Vincent Romanski for 63 years! They were married at St. Paul Catholic Church on November 9, 1957. Fifty years later, they renewed their vows at the same church and had a wonderful event with their family and friends to celebrate this milestone. She cherished and held dearest to her heart the life and family they created together. She was the adored mother of Elizabeth Szulborski, Lynn (Wayne) Wroby, Cheryl (Chris) Doran, and Joan (Mark) Malak; proud grandmother of Miranda (Nick) Ferguson, Shane (Bridget) Szulborski, Sylvia (Robert) Luteran, Patrick Wroby, Kasia (Austin) Tingelstad, Jacob (Janiece) Doran, Nicole (Jimmie) Sanna, Alyssa Malak, Bryan Malak, and Sara Malak; and great grandmother of Ada and Trevor Ferguson; Eli and Evan Doran; Scarlett and Harper Tingelstad; and Briar Szulborski. Doreen was the cherished sister of the late Barbara Miglio, special aunt to many nieces and nephews--affectionately called "AD" (Aunt Doreen) by some, and a kind and loving friend to all who knew her. Doreen was a devoted wife and mother and found her life's fulfillment in all of the many things that went along with being a wife and raising four cherished daughters with Vince, in the Catholic faith. She always kept a beautiful home and was a great interior decorator of the homes she and Vince shared. Doreen was a magnificent cook and baker; home cooked meals and desserts, and daily family dinner times were regular occurrences in the Romanski family household, and many times were with "company." Dinners out to nice places and with extended family were intertwined as well. A gracious and generous hostess, Doreen was at the helm of seamlessly and tirelessly making everything fantastic from food to fun and ambiance for "a great time had by all" whether it be birthdays, communions, graduations, showers, 4th of July pool parties, and all kinds of other events as she and Vince loved to entertain. There was truly no party like a Romanski Party! She did it with a smile, a huge welcome, and a fun spirit. When the girls were young, you could find her leading a Brownie or Girl Scout Troup, coaching a Little League Team, or being a "room mom" at school. As Vince traveled a lot for work, she had a big job holding down the fort with four kids close in age, utilizing her super-mom skills. Doreen was a talented artist! She spoke of making her own paper dolls and outfits as a child. There was a time when she loved oil painting, and she created many beautiful pieces that adorned walls in the home, and even put her talents toward floral arrangements while working at a florist as one of her many jobs when she had a yen to work. She loved her travels and proclaimed that she traveled every place she wanted to go including Belgium, Paris, England, and her long awaited dream vacation to Hawaii for her 50th Birthday following her "luau party." Her true joy later in life was her 10 grandchildren who came along about the time she and Vince moved to Shanty Creek on the golf course in Bellaire, Michigan, where they loved and lived for 20 years. This time brought about days and nights of sleepovers and quality week-long visits, golf cart rides, looking for deer and golf balls, and such. She enjoyed entertaining and playing with the kids, and filled the closet in the lower level with an endless supply of magical treasures to explore together. When family wasn’t visiting, she enjoyed Scrabble dates with friends, a bowling league, a golf league, and was a member of the Lioness Club. In Doreen’s own words, "Family is everything!" Nothing was more important to her than the love and time she shared with her family and extended family. She felt abundantly blessed in her recent years with the arrival of her seven great-grandchildren! Doreen was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Visitation Sunday from 3-8pm with a rosary at 4pm at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd.
