Dominic Rossi

Dominic Rossi, aged 95, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024 to be with the Lord. He was born on June12,1928 in Ceprano, Italy. His long and rewarding life was filled with generosity and he was admired by all who knew him. While he rarely spoke of it, as a child, Dominic was seriously injured blowing up a bridge in the fight against Nazi occupation and was forced to flee his village during the allied advance to liberate Italy. After the war, Dominic emigrated to the United States, settled in Detroit, and began his journey living the American dream. To honor his adopted homeland, he enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after the outbreak of the Korean Conflict. During this time of war, he served his newfound country overseas and was Honorably Discharged in December 1952. Upon his return to Detroit, Dominic renewed his romance with Elenora Macreno, the first generation Italian American daughter of a coal miner. They married in 1953 to begin raising a beautiful family together. Happily married for over 70 years, they cherished every holiday and birthday gathering with family. Dominic was a self-made man. Through his strength of spirit, his extraordinary work ethic, and his unquestioned honesty, he built a successful business in construction and home improvement; a tradition that was passed down to his sons. Dominic was an avid gardener, mycophile, winemaker, and sausage maker; the fruits of all four being greatly enjoyed by friends and at numerous festive family get togethers. The fabulous basil he grew was second only to the unique cultivar of Roma tomatoes that he propagated from the seeds of each year’s harvest. He also had a love of golf; a sport he played well into his 80s. Most would agree, however; he was a better gardener than golfer. Dominic was a deeply religious man. Throughout his life he found comfort in his unwavering faith and in the Catholic Church. Dominic will be missed by all his friends and, especially, by his wife and family, upon whom he bestowed his unconditional love. He is survived by his wife, Elenora Rossi (nee Macreno); by his children, Cynthia (Ken) Puncerelli, Lynda (Mark Eyster) Rossi and Craig (Krystal Kish) Rossi; by his grandchildren Ryan Stroud, Christopher Rossi, Lauren Girard, Max Eyster, Liam Eyster, Julian Rossi, Lorenzo Rossi and Alessandro Rossi; and by his great-grandchildren Reed Rossi, Lyric Rossi, Hendricks Rossi, Slater Stroud and Amelia Gerard. He is predeceased by his son Dennis (Julie) Rossi and his dear sister Carolina. He was loved, cherished, and respected by all. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-5 pm with a 3:30pm Scripture Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate will be Monday from 9:30am until the time of the 10am Mass at St Therese of Lisieux Parish, 48115 Schoenherr Rd, Shelby Twp, MI 48315. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery.
