Diana Elizabeth Carmichael-Owens, Esq. passed away Tuesday September 3, 2024 at age 64. Loving mother of Stan (Rochelle) Vespie, Stephanie Grimaldi, Katrina (Cameron) Belavek, James D. (Amanda) Owens, Kurtis (Courtney) Owens. Proud Granny to Isabella, Elaina, Gabriella, Zachary, Oliver, Abigail, and Calvin. Beloved daughter to C. Garrison (Sandra) White. Adored sister to Michael (Mary) White, Kimberly (Dean) Foulk, Judie (Gary) Davis, and Robin Padot. She is pre-deceased by her husbands, James C. Owens and David Carmichael; Mother, Carolyn Padot; Brothers, Richard White and Ronald Padot. Diana had a passion for working with teens. She created and directed the Youth Development Program through the Resolution Center. She, and her team, taught restorative justice mediation skills to middle and high school students. Her talents shined at East Pointe High School. For over 15 years, she helped create a culture of acceptance and inclusion by facilitating conversations to resolve social, family, and discipline issues. Watching her students teach other students conflict resolution brought her so much joy. The huge impact she had on her students showed through the positivity and appreciation shown by her students and staff. Diana received many awards and certificates throughout her career, although her proudest professional triumph was earning her Juris Doctor at the age of 58, a lifelong dream. Every day she spoke highly of her students, and how they were learning and developing the skills to mediate, communicate, and work together. A passage dedicated to her, written by one of her grandchildren, truly captures Diana’s uplifting spirit: Where most see a rock, she saw a diamond. She’d find beauty in the storm the rock had to intake to reach its true form. And even at the end, if there was only a rock without a diamond, it would never change her view. As the rocks determination to live even when terrified was how she placed value. She is that diamond. Her spirit. Her soul. Her tears. Her laughter. Her.
