McGHIE, Constance "Connie" E. Age 73. October 18, 2023. Cherished wife of Steve, for 44 beautiful years. Adored mother of the late Timmy McGhie, Elisabeth (Art) Sturdevant, Megan McGhie and Catherine (Sam Roberts) McGhie. Beloved grandmother of Madison Sturdevant and Nathan Sturdevant. Loving sister of the late Kenneth Kolis, Ron (the late Mary) Kolis and Bill (Sandy) Kolis and sister-in-law to Michael (Joan) McGhie and Jane (Greg) Hile. Dear daughter of the late Ted Kolis and the late Helen Kolis. Loving aunt to Julie (Chris) Herbst, John Kolis, Jennifer Kolis, Paul (Alyssa) Kolis, Ryan Kolis, David Kolis, Daniel (Rachel) Kolis, Nathaniel McGhie, Sophia McGhie, Karl (Kyla) Hile and Kelly (John) Ritter. Connie was a devoted daughter. She inherited her passions for crafting, sewing, cross stitching, doll making, cooking, baking, and playing pinochle from her beloved mother, Helen. She famously told her mom that she wanted to be "a plain old mom", just like her. Connie was a beloved sister to three wonderful brothers. She loved being a Halloween twin to her “older” brother, Ron. They often went back and forth about who was the trick and who was the treat, but she knew she had won when Hallmark made a figurine entitled “Connie, a sweet treat”! Connie was a high school business teacher by trade, teaching the lost art of shorthand; a skill she kept sharp by writing on all her daughter's christmas presents in the secret language that only she could decode. In her earlier years, she loved to go horseback riding, camping, cross country skiing, and traveling overseas with her college USO singing troop, where she made precious lifelong friendships. Connie was a cherished wife to her soulmate, Steve, for 44 beautiful years. Together they made a lifetime of treasured memories while creating a warm, loving home for their three girls. A home that she took great care to decorate for every holiday… plus a few weeks. Connie happily turned in her ruler and erasers to become a stay-at-home mom; her life’s joy. Driving her “loser cruiser” or “mom’s taxi” to every sporting event, piano lesson, and often weekly visits to Bonaventure skating rink, all while blasting oldies and the greatest hits from Sharon, Lois, and Bram. Always happy to make every Halloween costume, help with science fair projects, and correct any last minute papers her daughters had. Her days were often filled with a multitude of phone calls from her girls, usually starting with “I was just on the phone with your sister”. Whether she was sharing one of her great stories, offering advice, or just being a sounding board to vent, she took every call. Connie proudly adorned the title of “World’s Okayest Mom” because when you are the very best of the best, you can happily play into your daughters’ silly jokes just to see them laugh. Those are the things you do for your best friends. She was so proud to be their mom. Always making sure to express her love for them and reminding them just how happy they made her every chance she got. She never missed a chance to remind them to “drive safe” or “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. Without a doubt, Connie’s proudest moment was earning the title of Grandma to Maddie and Nathan. She spent countless hours facetiming with them, singing, telling stories, playing with toys, being a silly-silly, and spoiling them at every opportunity. She enjoyed every visit and made sure to take photos and videos galore. Connie’s quick wit, sense of humor, kind heart, listening ear, generosity of spirit, and love of playing card games were the things that made her a fast friend with anyone she encountered. She remembered every birthday, anniversary, and special occasion; always having a card or an order of flowers ready to send. Connie will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure to call her a friend. And she will be loved by her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and fellow southpaw for forever plus two weeks. Go be Timmy’s mom now, we’ll take care of each other just how you taught us. Please excuse all grammatical errors, my mom is no longer here with her red pen. Instate Tuesday 9am until the time of the 9:30am Mass at St Martin de Porres Catholic Parish Church, 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
