Ahmad Lavon Abdul

Ahmad Lavon Abdul was born on September 1st 1961 to Heikmat Abdul and Richard Owens. The age-old African Proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child", held true for Ahmad. While growing up, Ahmad was under the watchful eye of neighbors, family, and friends namely Hortense Wallace and Juanita Wilbert. Being the eldest of his siblings he took on the role of leader, caretaker, and example. Ahmad worked hard, opting to work to help in the family's needs by stopping high school for a brief period. Unrelenting in his goal of a successful life, Ahmad received his G.E.D, reentered school, walked across the stage, graduated, and received his diploma from John J. Pershing High School with head held high. Ahmad, feeling his path to success for himself and his family would be hampered, he decided to join the Navy. His 1st duty station was the Naval Base Subic Bay, Philippines where he worked on Destroyers as an Electronic Technician and on rotating weekends as a Military Police. Even with all his responsibilities in the Navy, Ahmad found time to help out with after-school programs with the H.S. students on base, photograph different sporting events, and also took college courses on campus. Unbeknownst to him or his future wife, it would be on that college campus where his now legacy would take root. It is there he met Brenda Williams to form a marital union that bore four girls, the 1st being Anastasia, whose entrance into the world was short-lived. Two years later Ahmad and Brenda's "Rainbow" child, Shawnay, would alleviate the loss of Anastasia and 11 months later another blessing of Laissha brought even more joy. After 10 years of active duty and receiving a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Illinois. Ahmad went back to his beloved Michigan, and within this venture of his growing family's journey, the last and live blessing from God, Sierrah, would enter the scene and complete the family portrait. Michigan again became Ahmad's home; his Village of family and friends where he flourished in his profession and his understanding of the meaning of life; that LOVE is all that matters and is a force that can erase a multitude of wrongs! Ahmad will be very much missed by all who came to know him but will never be forgotten from our memories and most especially our hearts. The Abdul and Owens family would like to thank everyone for the love and friendship that brought Ahmad into your life. May God bless and take care of you until with God's grace we have the opportunity to see one another again in the New Jerusalem!
